Simple SMB Share
Single share created by default
One share called "genesis" is created from the factory and is for very simple LAN sharing of your SAN data to a few laptops or ancillary machines.
There is no support from Scale Logic for creating users or groups with the default simple SMB share. If you have a Linux Samba administrator, they are welcome to support additional features but Scale Logic support can't help support those additions.
No Performance Guarantee
The simple SMB share is a use case for simple access and data movement and can’t be supported for things like video editing or realtime video playback.
Scale Out NAS or “SONG”
This is a paid UX upgrade to the Simple SMB Share that does not require individual client licenses. LAN clients use the native OS connection style.
Higher block sizes and more tuning for performance. Scale Logic can assist on performance-type support cases with SONG.
SONG is a true Scale out NAS. It can be used with just one UX for the features listed here but if you need a 2nd UX a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th SONG can run on the expanded UX systems and the NAS access remains a single IP address or DNS location. SONG is a true scale out cluster that is simple to install and maintain. Our installer and GUI completely remove the pain from the "cluster".
Users and Groups
SONG can join Active Directory, LDAP, or even support creation of its own internal LDAP for user and group support.
A simple installation of SONG installs everything you need for LAN sharing, including GUI for creating and managing SMB, NFS, HTTP, and FTP shares, creating a cluter, setting up access lists, and managing SMB auditing.
Turn on SMB auditing per share, and see Logons, Logoffs, file/folder opens, create file/folders, reads, writes, renames, deletes, folder listings, and permissions setting.
